who’s best?

Although this is a hard one, I actually think they picked right on this one. That rape scene with Jodie Foster..I liked that her character wasn’t necessarily super-likeable. She had issues for sure, but you wanted her to get justice.

Plot: An admired high school hockey player (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) with a bright future foolishly takes a drive in the night with his girl friend and two other friends with his headlights off with devastating results. The former athlete is left with a brain injury that prevents him from remembering many things for extended periods of time. To compensate, he keeps notes in a small notebook to aid him in remembering what he is to do. He also lives with a blind friend (Jeff Daniels) who aids him. Obviously, with the mental incapacitation, he is unable to have meaningful work. Thus he works as a night cleaning man in a bank. It is there he comes under the scrutiny of a gang planning to rob the bank. The leader (Matthew Goode) befriends him and gets him involved with a young woman (Isla Fisher) who further reels him in. After they get close and after reeling him in with his own failures, the bank plan unfolds. Confused but wanting to escape his current existence, he initially goes along with the scheme. After realizing he is being used, he attempts to stop the robbery, which of course immediately goes awry. Bruce McGill and Alberta Watson also co-star as the young man’s parents, who still search for the person that was there before the tragic crash.

[In Your Opinion] What's Some Bad Movies That Had Potential To Be Good?
Im talking about movies that looked really entertaining on the preview, or just the hype about them, and when you saw it, they were horrible.

I got a few.

Tropic Thunder. Some big names in it, but didn’t cause any big laughs.

Strange Wilderness. This was a big hit and miss for having Adam Sandler behind it. Plus there was actually funny actors that starred in it, but to no luck failed.

The Punisher sequel. I actually feel asleep to it. What happened?

Carlito’s way: rise to power. Remind me not to buy straight to DVD films ever again.

The DaVinci Code…
All the right subject matter was there, but the presentation was pretentious and contrived. Also, Dan Brown plagiarised ALL his ideas for this story from Baigent, Lincoln and Lee. I think it’s all stuff worth consideration, but doesn’t translate well to film.

Timeline…
The book by Michael Crichton was sooooooo much fun, well-written, exciting and adventurous and does just what you expect from a good novel…doesn’t allow you to put it down and makes you easily feel as if you are right there in the story.
Some extremely key elements of the book were ignored in the movie, the acting and directing were equally lifeless…and I resent the director for this because I know it likely has turned people away from reading the novel.

Solaris (2002 version)…
My favorite film of all time is the original Russian 1972 version of Solaris, directed by Andrei Tarkovsky. It’s the most original and beautiful and mesmerizing "film experience" and to me it will never get old no matter how many repeat viewings.
This movie introduced things not in the book at all. Actually, the book’s beginning occurs 45 minutes into the film. Also, there were some occurences set on the planet in the book, which were entirely omitted in the film. Even the central theme was altered. Despite all this, it WORKED in a way it otherwise may not have.
Sodergergh’s updated version attempted to remake the first film almost shot-for-shot, rather than taking the chance to translate the original story. (Why do something exactly the same, but with sub-par actors and lifeless direction?) All the actors were very, very poorly cast. Ultimately pointless effort. Cronenberg should have done it!

Benjamin Button. The idea was FANTASTIC and the storyline was good, but the way they executed it..they had so much more potential they could’ve reached, but nope, didn’t hit it.

Still a good movie, but I expected more from it.

The Hustler (1962?) with Paul Newman, George C. Scott and Jackie Gleason.

It was really great for the twenty minutes that they were playing pool. The rest was an ill-advised, long, and poorly-executed snoozefest.

X-Men Origins Wolverine. Download the leaked copy on the internet to see what I mean, not a good movie at all. weak plot, bad acting, poor continuity with the other films, poor character development and basically pisses on the actual comic books.

Running Man- The original story written by John Bachman (aka Stephen King) was so well written and would have translated to film beautifully but they didn’t even come remotely close to sticking to the story line.

How do snakes MATE? and…?
and is there really such thing as "mating season"? I saw the movie Anaconda’s (the hunt for red blood orchid). I was wondering if they really do get that BIG in size? like a dinosaur?

Yes, there is mating season, typically when the air temperature warms up (in captivity, to induce mating, breeders reduce the temperature in the snake cage for a few weeks and then bring it back up again - this triggers mating).
To mate, the male will wrap his tail around the female’s tail. He has two modified scales that he uses are spurs to hold her in place. He then inserts his hemipenes (dual internal reproductive organ) into her vent. They can stay in that position for as long as 24 hours, and may repeat this several times.

Anacondas do not get as big as the movie portrays; 13-14 feet is normal for a green anaconda male, 15-16 feet for a female. Rarely do they get any bigger than that. Yellow anacondas are about 4-5 feet smaller than greens, on average.

Zoe | Feb 06, 2007

I would guess that the male snakes would have a pee-pee, and the female would have a wee-wee. If they did get as big as dinosaurs, we would surely know it. Everything around would be stomped on!
Bud's Girl | Feb 06, 2007

In polar and temperate regions, there is a mating season. But in tropical regions, they mate all year. No, anacondas don’t get that big. Snakes mate in much the same way humans do, except that the male has a hemipenis (meaning he has two penises).

Finding a location in Berlin?
Hi

Is anybody Local to Berlin; or knows Berlin very well? I am travelling there in a few weeks and need to track a location down.

Ive seen the film "The Baader Meinhof Complex" and would like to see Ulrike Mienhof’s gravestone.
Ive been on Google Maps and tracked the location to:

Heilig-Kreuz-Kirchhof, Mariendorf,
Cemetery, which I believe is North of Tegel Airport.
Ive found U-Bhan stations around the area although they look a distance away. Does anybody know if the cemetery is in realistic walking distance; and how long it would take to walk from the nearest U-Bhan Station?

Also is the cemetery large; is her grave easy to locate. Ive tracked down its in "Zone A"? Does anybody know where that is in the cemetery?

Any help would be much appreciated
BT

In reality Ulrike Meinhof is burried in the city of Stuttgart not in Berlin so you won’t find her gravestone there.
The burial was very controvers at the time the major of Stuttgart defended the right of the terrorists to get a burial place and said that with the dead even terrorists aren’t to be considered as public ennemies anymore

Why do blind people wear dark sun glasses?
I’m not trying to sound mean or anything, I just find a lot do, is there a reason for that or what?

Usually their eyes are pointing in wonky directions or they have serious problems with their eyes so it helps hide them. Also, it helps identify blind people :P MadTurki | Apr 24, 2009

Good Question! I think maybe because they close their eyes often?
Jessie! | Apr 24, 2009

Its just that since they have no need to focus, their eyes look kind of funny- alot of people get creeped out by their stare. (seen the blind guy on american idol?) I think they do it for other’s comfort around their disability.

They don’t know they are wearing them - they can’t see.
esra-taf | Apr 24, 2009

Their eyes may look like they’re staring at something when really they can’t see anything and aren’t intending to stare at anybody. Depending on the cause of blindness, the eyes may seem cloudy or the eyes are "lazy". I guess they just don’t want people to stare at them more than they already do. Would you?

actually not many do.
if they are totally blind its more of a cosmetic reason cuz they rather not have people see what their eyes look like.
if they are not totally blind its more for the reason that some people are sensative to light.

i am legally blind and i can’t see at all out of my one eye so it tends to go inwards so all you see it the white of my eye so sometimes that is embarressing so i like wearing sunglasses but my other eye has very poor vision and i am very light sensative so i need the sunglasses to help with the glare.

I want to change the default settings in Microsoft Word?
I would like to adjust some settings in Microsoft Word so that whenever I open the program, it is already set to ‘narrow margins’ and the settings I adjust under the ‘paragraph’ heading always stay the same (such as: spacing, 0 pt after), and maybe the font size too. What’s the best way to go about doing this?

Open a new Word document and go to File | Page Setup.
Set the margins the way you want them in your default document. Do not make any other changes in this dialog unless you want them to apply to all new documents.
